I liked this one even better than the first one!! So adventurous。

While Dahl is an exceptional writer, and I loved this book as a child, the racism has not aged well。

Quite possibly the worst book I’ve ever read。 Haha! I don’t understand how we can go from such a great read in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, to this bizarre sci-fi with no real storyline。 Like why are we going from aliens in space, to disappearing grandparents? Only finished because the kids wanted to。 But yeah, it was a total disappointment。

2,5 ⭐Myślę, że spodobałaby mi się bardziej gdybym była młodsza, jednak fajnie było wrócić do bohaterów, których kochałam we wczesnym dzieciństwie

This sequel did not age well, while Charlie and the Chocolate Factory held up okay。 This is an absurd story, in an annoying and drawn-out way。

So basically Charlie and his family and Willy Wonka went to Space in a glass elevator and met some space monsters (freaky) in a space hotel who could only spell SCRAM because this is a children's book and not an adult's。 Isn't it weird though they know English?! Well anyway, the most memorable bit to me was Charlie's grandparents did the Benjamin Button thing, that was the funniest bit of this book。 Not sure if this was somehow inspired by the space race competition during the cold war since thi So basically Charlie and his family and Willy Wonka went to Space in a glass elevator and met some space monsters (freaky) in a space hotel who could only spell SCRAM because this is a children's book and not an adult's。 Isn't it weird though they know English?! Just finished this one this morning… it’s the sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory。 I must admit it isn’t as good but it’s still entertaining… the main feature is a trip where Wonka, Charlie and his family all end up in The Elevator out in space。 It’s very bizarre and it really reminded me of Dr Who’s Tardis 😂 It’s a nice little add on story but I don’t think it’s vital to read the original stands on its own。

Weirdest of the Dahl books for sure! This one just went off on a few tangents。。。

just doesn’t hit the same as the chocolate factory, does it?

This book is the sequel to the first book, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory。 As the ending in the first book, Mr Wonka and Charlie's family were riding the Great Glass Elevator to Mr Wonka's factory。 The lift consisted of Mr Wonka, Charlie,  Charlie's parents (Mr and Mrs Bucket), Mr Bucket's father and mother (Grandpa Jo and Grandma Josephine), and Mrs Bucket's father and mother (Grandpa George and Grandma Georgina), however never reached the factory at first。 The elevator, because of some inci This book is the sequel to the first book, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory。 As the ending in the first book, Mr Wonka and Charlie's family were riding the Great Glass Elevator to Mr Wonka's factory。 The lift consisted of Mr Wonka, Charlie,  Charlie's parents (Mr and Mrs Bucket), Mr Bucket's father and mother (Grandpa Jo and Grandma Josephine), and Mrs Bucket's father and mother (Grandpa George and Grandma Georgina), however never reached the factory at first。 The elevator, because of some incident (Mr Wonka failed to press the right button that would bring them to the factory because of Grandma Josephine's disturbance) went too far and went into orbit。 Mr Wonka's Glass Elevator was not the only one that was orbiting the earth。 There was Space Hotel 'U。S。A' that successfully launched two days before。 The hotel, which was shaped like a capsule, had a complete facility inside, like a tenniscourt, a swimming pool, a gymnasium etc。 In another part, there was also a large Transport Capsule containing the entire staff for Space Hotel 'U。S。A' and three astronauts which tried to link up with the hotel。Long story short, Mr Wonka and the rest of the elevator's passengers succeeded in entering the hotel。 But alas, they met the strange creatures from planet Vermes called Knid。 Knids tried to attack Mr Wonka and Charlie's family。 Knid also ate some guests and staff of Space Hotel 'U。S。A'。 The Glass Elevator that Mr Wonka said was Knidproof then had the mission to save lots of people in the space hotel by linking up the hotel to the Glass Elevator and bringing them to the earth, where Knid never succeeded in making re-entry due to the high speed that would burn them into flames。Well, I thought the sequel would tell the story around Mr Wonka's factory after he gave it to Charlie, but the book focussed on the adventure of The Great Glass Elevator and its passengers, just like the title of the book。 However, Dahl also wrote a little story about the factory, about Wonka-Vite that made the elderly turned into babies and the way Wonka turned their age back by traveling to Minus Land。 In addition, for me, the thing that was interesting was the part when Mr Wonka communicated with the president using his strange language。 It made the president assume that Mr Wonka and Charlie's family were aliens from Mars and invited them to the White House。 That part for me was very Roald Dahl who cleaverly created unique language uttered by Mr Wonka and I have noticed it ever since I read The BFG。Honestly, I am quite disappointed since the book had no illustrations, which made me a little bit confused, since I have no imagination about what Knid looked like, or the clear shape of Space Hotel 'U。S A'。 Moreover, for me, the story about their adventure in space which made them became heroes and invited by the president is quite ridiculous, but this book is worth reading since it reminds me that we as humans are allowed to have a broad imagination in our minds。 。。。more

I absolutely loved this book! Usually, when other authors make a sequel to a bestseller book that they released in the past, it is usually really bad, and it seems like it was just made for money。 But this is not the case for this book! It seems that Roald Dahl planned this storyline before releasing the first book because they both tie in perfectly。 This book is more science fiction than the other, which I love! I’m going against popular opinion。 I listened to the audio version of this story with Eric Idle reading。 I laughed out loud at the outrageous silliness in this book。 Eric did a wonderful job in the reading of this story。 My enjoyment would have been much less, if I read the book myself。 My pleasure was in listening。

not good。

Very inaccurate and racist portrayal of how Chinese people speak English 😒

I have funny feeling about this book。 A family member bought it for me brand new when I was a child, which was a huge deal at the time, so I felt obligated to try to like it。 Maybe if I had read the previous book first (rather than rely on watching the Gene Wilder film), I would have better appreciated this。

After reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I don't know how Roald Dahl went so wrong with Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator。 He took the least interesting part of the first book and wrote an entire second book about it。 Honestly, it was painful to get through。Chocolate Factory has a plot, with lessons。 This monstrosity was just one random event after another that served no point at all。 The characters don't learn any lessons, they don't learn anything。 The entire story is pointless。If yo After reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I don't know how Roald Dahl went so wrong with Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator。 He took the least interesting part of the first book and wrote an entire second book about it。 Honestly, it was painful to get through。Chocolate Factory has a plot, with lessons。 This monstrosity was just one random event after another that served no point at all。 The characters don't learn any lessons, they don't learn anything。 The entire story is pointless。If you enjoyed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, do yourself a favor and skip this sequel。 。。。more

such a cute lil tale。 i love how much we got to see the grandparents in this one! it was pleasant overall, but it just lacked the magical feeling that charlie and the chocolate factory had。

This book was really just all over the place for me and was at all what I was expecting。 I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did!

Definitely doesn't live up to the first book。 It's just a little too "out there" and the story is more difficult to follow but my kids loved it。 Definitely doesn't live up to the first book。 It's just a little too "out there" and the story is more difficult to follow but my kids loved it。 。。。more

This was fine。 It mostly felt like a fever dream of different concepts all mashed together without much rhyme or reason。 (view spoiler)[ Remember the alien invasion from the beginning?
